Creating Meditation Space in Your Home

Are you trying to get you Zen on at home and don’t know where to start? Here are a few helpful tips to creating a meditation space in your home.

You do not need a ton of space. A corner of a quiet room would work just fine. If you are able to dedicate an entire room then that is fantastic! But again not necessary. You do you!

The impact of meditation on your health is undeniable and learning how to relax and calm your mind doesn’t have to stress you out. You want to be meditating, not worrying about building a meditation space. Get it done quickly and get your calm on.

DECLUTTER AND KEEP IT SIMPLE

If you want to declutter your mind, declutter your space! This can go for your whole house really, but let’s stay focused, shall we? Remove any distracting objects like electronics or objects that are collecting dust. A clean clutter free space will help the energy flow! Limit your filed of vision and make it less likely for your mind to wander.

BREATHE IN

Have you ever smelled something that brought back an immediate memory? That is because your sense of smell is the only one of your five senses that bypasses the prefrontal cortex of your brain. That means you don’t have time to think before it hits your brain. So let’s freshen up that air in your sacred space. Your inner hippie may tell you to try incense, but you can also use a diffuser with essential oils or candle that you find pleasant and calming. It’s also a great idea to get a plant or two, like an aloe one, that will clean toxins from the air and make everything smell fresh. Please be mindful of pets if using diffusers however, some oils can be highly toxic to them!

LET THE MUSIC SET THE MOOD

Now let me confess. I am a heavy metal junkie! However, this has no place in my meditation space. In my car, ABSOLUTELY ! Whatever music helps you relax is what you should play. Just make sure that the playlist is long or set to repeat. Keep the volume to a minimum, though, since it’s hard to clear your mind when music is piercing your ears. I recommend Tibetan Singing Bowls that can be found on YouTube or any binaural beats. The singing bowls will help you refocus your mind if it tends to drift. (which it will)

LET THE ZEN FLOW

Pick your spot that will allow you to have the most uninterrupted and quiet time to yourself. Any time this space can be created outdoors, the better. Nature is the fastest way to reconnecting. Remember this is YOUR sacred space and should be kept that way. Your kids have a play room that I am sure you do not turn in to a work space. The same goes for you! Your sacred space is the adult version on your play room! This is a spot for your good energy to reside and a space you look forward to visiting!
